Today, I Sarah and I taught 12th Grade Senior Strategies. We showed a video to introduce the lesson and thankfully it worked! Then, we used a powerpoint to teach what each consumer right and responsibility was and how they impact all consumers. During the powerpoint, we gave great examples and asked open-ended questions to get the discussion going. We then had the students write sample complaint letters and pretend to receive their neighbor's letter to understand both roles in the situation. The students had no problem coming up with ideas of what to write about, and they were very interested in writing the consumers back with the decision they made about their product.
Today the strategies we used included lecture, group work, and class discussion. I have learned, since I began this clinical, that I enjoy implementing different methods throughout the class period. I think it helps get the students more involved instead of just listening to a lecture the whole class period.
The assessment we used was having the students share their products and results and what they learned from the experience. I really enjoy when the students share because other students can learn from one another. One thing I would change is that I would have everyone share instead of just a few because I think it is important that everyone is heard.
The classes were somewhat well behaved today. Even though I see group activity as a plus, it is also a negative because it gets the students riled up and I still need to work on transitioning between activities to calm them down. Otherwise, I felt the activities were very effective and the students were able to relate to the material we displayed.
